Greetings, to all who roam these halls...
______________
This site is dedicated to Magic: the Gathering players old and new who have a yearning for the days when Shivan dominated the skies, Assassins lurked in the shadows, and Leviathan was the undisputed king of the ocean.
"Type Zero" Magic is that return to nostalgia. The concept is simple: all cards must be from the "T" Tap Symbol era or before - Alpha thru Fallen Empires. This format has a unique banned and restricted list which draws from other "Old School" lists for a balanced meta, but keeps Old School staple rules "Mana Burn" and "Tapped Blockers don't deal damage"; in the interest of simplicity, all other game rules and updated errata are current.
Type Zero Lite, or "Power Down", is a variant of Type Zero geared toward greater accessibility and creative deckbuilding that encourages balanced back-and-forth games while still maintaining that "Old School" feel. This version removes the most broken cards, such as Power 9, Library, and Mind Twist; it also allows reprints (with original artwork) and proxies. It uses a novel "tiered" restricted list, allowing 2 or even 3 copies of some cards that aren't so powerful they need to be limited to 1 (such as Mishra's Factory, Hymn to Tourach, and Dual Lands), but need some limitation due to power level or the fact they choke out room for creativity.
Whether you are newer to the game and feel overwhelmed with the constant barrage of new mechanics, paragraphs of card text, and turns that last a week, or are a player from the early days, fondly remembering hanging with friends in the school lunchroom, opening revised packs, listening to our teachers tell us how Magic would lead to a life of sin... this is our format.
About, about in reel and rout, the death-fires danced at night;
The water, like a witch's oils, burnt green, and blue and white."
